Place 1 cup Calrose rice in a fine-mesh sieve or bowl. Rinse under cold running water, swirling by hand, until water runs mostly clear.
Transfer rinsed rice to a medium pot with a tight-fitting lid. Add 1¼ cups cold water and ¼ teaspoon salt. Stir gently to combine.
Set pot over medium-high heat and bring to a rolling boil. Immediately reduce heat to lowest setting and cover tightly.
Simmer gently, undisturbed, for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
Remove pot from heat and keep covered. Let rice rest for 10 minutes.
Remove lid and use a fork to gently fluff the rice. Serve warm.
