Wash all the fruit thoroughly. Slice the orange and lemon into rounds, core and chop the apple into bite-sized pieces, and wash the berries if using.
In a large jug (at least 2-litre capacity), pour in the red wine, then add the brandy, orange liqueur and fresh orange juice.
Add the caster sugar and stir well until it has completely dissolved. Taste and adjust the sweetness if desired.
Gently add the prepared fruit to the jug, making sure it’s submerged in the liquid.
Cover the jug and chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavours to infuse.
When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice and pour in the chilled sangria, fruit and all. If you like, top up each glass with a splash of sparkling water or soda water and stir gently.
