Ingredients

Water250 ml
Plain flour125 g
Butter30 g
Sugar1 tbsp
Salt
Egg1
Vegetable oil for frying
Caster sugar
Cinnamon
Melted chocolate (optional)

Instructions

Bring the water to a boil with the butter, sugar and salt in a small saucepan.

Add all the plain flour at once and stir vigorously until you get a compact dough that pulls away from the sides.

Let the dough cool slightly, then incorporate the egg, mixing well until you get a smooth consistency.

Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle.

Heat plenty of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan.

Pipe strips of dough directly into the hot oil and fry until golden.

Drain the churros on kitchen paper.

Immediately roll them in caster sugar mixed with cinnamon.

Serve the churros still warm, perhaps accompanied by melted chocolate.
