Heat the whole milk in a small saucepan until it is about to simmer.

Add the sugar and stir until it completely dissolves.

In a small bowl, mix the cornflour with a splash of cold milk to make a smooth batter.

Pour the cornflour batter into the saucepan, stirring continuously.

When the mixture starts to thicken, add the chopped dark chocolate and vanilla extract.
